Caregivers for people with
Lymphedema
The main symptom of Lymphedema is the persistent swelling, usually of the arm or leg.
Home Health Aides are trained to use compression stockings or wraps for the affected arm or leg according to doctors' instructions. To avoid complications caregivers are vigilant about the patient's skin care and hygiene.
The caregiver will assist patients with the activities of daily living:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Toileting
- Transferring
- Ambulating (walking)
- Continence care and feeding (as needed by the patient and recommended by their physician)
- Medication reminders
- Run errands
- Light housekeeping
- Accompany to doctor’s appointments
- Monitor for gross behavioral changes
- Help to maintain safety
- Passive exercises
