Respite Care…
Whether it’s a day of shopping, a walk in the park or a night out, caregivers deserve and need time to themselves!

Caring for someone who is disabled, sick or has Alzheimer's disease can be overwhelming, exhausting and stressful...Whitsyms Nursing Service can help with all of your Elder Care needs!

It is important that family caregivers look after their own physical and mental health. When caring for others, it's important that you take care of yourself. Otherwise you can be at risk of exhaustion, health problems and depression.

If you are caring for a loved one, you need to take care of yourself so that you can continue to provide that care. Finding respite care is a necessity. Respite care is substitute care given so the regular caregiver can take a break and get some relief from the responsibility of caregiving. Friends, family, community resources and professionals (nurses, home health aides, companions) can help to provide a much needed break.

Although caregiving can be a rewarding experience it is also quite demanding. A break every so often can be beneficial for the family caregiver and the patient. Whether it’s a day of shopping, a walk in the park or a night out, caregivers deserve and need time to themselves.

In-home care is popular for obvious reasons. The temporary caregiver gets to know the patient/care receiver in his or her normal environment and can learn the family routine, where medicines are stored, and the patient is not inconvenienced by transportation and strange environments.

Sitter-companion services are sometimes provided by local civic groups, the faith community and other community organizations. A regular sitter-companion can provide friendly respite care for a few hours, once or twice a week. Depending on the situation care must be taken to assure that the sitter-companion is aware of what to do if an emergency occurs while the regular caregiver is out of the home.

Whitsyms can refer caregivers for just a few hours each week providing some relief for the family caregiver.
