Caregivers for people with
Renal Failure
Renal failure or kidney failure describes a medical condition in which the kidneys fail to adequately filter toxins and waste products from the blood. Symptoms can vary from person to person.
Your doctor will tell you what you should eat or not eat to reduce the buildup of toxins normally handled by the kidneys. Your caregiver may help you stay on the diet recommended by your physician.
If dialysis is needed your caregiver may provide travel care assistance services on the dialysis trips.
The caregiver will assist patients with the activities of daily living:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Toileting
- Transferring
- Ambulating (walking)
- Monitor Fluid Intake (Dialysis patients very limited for fluids)
- Continence care and feeding (as needed by the patient and recommended by their physician)
- Medication reminders
- Run errands
- Light housekeeping
- Accompany to doctor’s appointments
- Monitor for gross behavioral changes
- Help to maintain safety
- Passive exercises
